Hit On 120th/L St.

Today I was coming back to church and as I was sitting at the traffic light at 120th / L St. waiting to turn right when I got hit.  “You got in a car accident and your precious, 1991, car is wrecked?”….nope.  I sitting at this light and out of the corner of my eye I see this young man, probably 18 years old or so comes walking in front of the deep line of cars waiting at the light.

What was significant about this is that this young guy has a pretty severe disability…probably cerebral palsy.  I sat there and watched this guy exert great effort to get across the 8+ lanes of traffic…that intersection is about a block long in and of itself!  He then continued to walk up 120th, walking slowly but working with all he had to walk.

I feel like God is bringing me these subtle, yet not so subtle reminders to be grateful.  I’m not saying this guy has a bad life and mine better because I don’t have his disability…that would be a pretty naïve thought.  But what I am saying is that I think God slows us down sometimes when we are “neck deep” in our own lives and he reminds us what’s important, what matters, and what counts for eternity.  “Lord thanks for letting me see this guy today…we pray you’d bless his life and that he’d experience life in the fullness of your Kingdom.” If you want to get a slice of what I experienced today check out this video below.  Steve sent it to our staff yesterday…it’s powerful and good for the soul!
